1. I am good at making people laugh.
2. When I make people laugh I feel happy and I feel good for myself because people around me are happy.
3. If people wouldn't let me make people laugh then I would be very sad because I love making people laugh all the time.

Chapter 8
October 11,2006
My situation is when a girl wants to go to art school but her mom and dad wanted her to go to a regular college

This paragraph is about what I think of the situation. If she really wanted to go to the art school then she would follow her dreams. She has a right to go to art school besause it's her life. She has a right to say no to the regular college. She also has a right to decide what college she goes to. That is what I think of the situation.

Chapter 9

1. I think that Graybeard is a good teacher because he stops Tao and tells him what his is doing wrong. He also shows him how to do it instead of telling him.

The Giver

Chapter 1

November 29,2006
Quote: For a contributing citizen to be released from the community was a final decision, a teribble punishment, an overwhelming statement of failure. Page 4
Meaning: I think it means that in that community, if you do something very wrong, you get kicked out from that community and you can never come back until you're one of the Old and get released from another community. I don't think that this is fair because it was just one mistake and everyone deserves a second chance at lease once in their lifetime.

Chapter 2
November 29,2006
Quote: It was a secret selection, made by the leaders of the community, the Committee of Elders, who took the responsibilty so seriously that there were never any jokes made about Assignments. Page 15
Meaning: I think it means that the leaders in that community chose jobs for people in the community based on what the person's skills, what he/she is good at, ect. Instead of people applying for jobs on their own. I don't like this idea because someone might want to try to do another job, or someone might not like this job that he/she has now.

Chapter 3
November 30,2006
Quote: Father put his bike into it's port. Page 20
Meaning: I think it means that people in that community don't have cars. I also think that the people thought that cars were dangerous to be in. The only thing that people rode were bikes. They might have also thought that the cars were polluting their air. I like this idea because they have clean air and the air isn't polluted that much. I also don't like this idea because people sometimes may have too much things to carry and the things can't fit in the basket. I also don't like this idea because the person who is riding the bike might have had a child on too, and then he/she might have lost the balance and then the bike fell over including the child and the person.

Chapter 4
November 30,2006
Quote: "This morning we celebrated the release of Roberto" she told him. Page 30
Meaning: I think that this means that everytime someone is at an age and is old, that person celebrates and steps out of that community and gets to live somwhere else for the rest of their lives. I like this idea because the Old desreve to spend the rest of there lives happy and almost carefree, but I also don't like it because someone might be too old to live alone and that person might not be able to travel far distances.

Chapter 5
November 30,2006
Quote: "It's just the pills. You're ready for the pills, thats all. That's the treatment for Stirrings" Page 36
Meaning: I think it means that people who are starting to have feelings for other have to take pills so they don't have those feelings for that person anymore. So tecnically in that community husbands and wifes are really like brother and sister living in the same household with each other. I don't like this idea because people have the right to love whoever they want. I don't like this idea because if no one loves each other they might also not care for each other. I also like this idea because in a world without love no one can get hurt emotionally.

Chapter 6
December 4, 2006
Quote: For the parents, it ment two days holiday from work. Page 40
Meaning: I think this means that parents worked all year without any breaks from work, unless for a medical reason. I don't like this idea because sometimes the parents want to spend some time together with their chidren, and stay home. I also don't like this idea because sometime parents are too tired and don't want to go to work.

Chapter 7
December 4,2006
Quote: The childcare specialists were trained very carefully in the disipline methods: a quick smack across the hand for a bit of minor misbehavior, three sharper smacks on the bare legs for a secong offense. Page 52
Meaning: I think it means that if you misbehave in school, the teachers would hit you with a whip once on the hands. If you do it another time, you get hit three times on your bare legs. I don't like this idea because they are just children. Also, because no one's perfect, People have to mess up at least one point in their life.

Chapter 8
December 4, 2006
Quote: "Jonas has been selected." Page 57
Meaning: I think it means that in that community, rarely any Twelve year olds are selected the job like Jonas will have. I don't really like the saying because it kinda sounds like Jonas is in trouble or he's getting a special job that's better then all of the jobs in that community. I also don't like this saying because how the Chief Elder says it, it sounds like Jonas is more special then the rest of the community.

Chapter 9
December 4, 2006
Quote: 8. You may lie. Page 65
Meaning: I think this means that in that community people cannot lie about anything. I also think that children and people in that community were taught not to lie. I like the when people can't lie because that means that everyone's trustful. But I don't think that this rule listed above is fair because everyone else had to tell the truth when he gets the right to lie. But if everyone else gets to lie then I guess it's fair because everyone gets to lie.

Chapter 10
December 4,2006
Quote: No doors in the community were locked, ever. Page 70
Meaning: I think this means that in that community people were forbbiden to lock the doors of their house ever. I don't like this idea because people need their privacy. Sometimes a person might be doing something personal that he/she doesn't want anyone to know. I also like this because no one needs a key to open the door so that means that no one ever worries about losing their keys.

Chapter 11
December 6,2006
Quote: He could see them gather on the backs of his hands, like cold fur. Page 78
Meaning: I think it means that people in that community didn't have any snow or blizzards, they also didn't know what snow was, besides the Receiver. I don't think this was fair because they didn't let the citizens see snow or experience it ever. While maybe the other communities had snow.

Chapter 12
December 6,2006
Quote: "The What?" Page 89
Meaning: I think it means that people in that community were colorblind. People in that community didn't know what colors were or what kinds of colors there were. I don't like this idea because people deserve to see colors and not just black and white. It's kind mean because if everyone was colorblind people wouldn't be able to see the world all around them and all the beautiful things there are in life all around them.

Chapter 13
December 6,2006
Quote: "Then there aren't any choices!" Page 92
Meaning: People in that community didn't make any choices so they didn't really have freedom to do whatever they wanted to. I like the idea because then peole wouldn't make any stupid choices . I also don't like it because it's like the people didn't have any rights to do the things they want to do, so it's kind of like slavey except there are no owners and they don't hurt other people.

Chapter 14
December 7,2006
Quote: "Centuries back" Page 106
Meaning: It think it means that this community lives in the future. Since this community is inthe future it might have better technology then us. I kind of like this idea because in the future there might not be any wars so there won't be any deaths in the war. I also like this idea because in the future they might have found a way to cure diseases.

Chapter 15
December 7,2006
Quote: Overwelmed with pain, he lay there in the fearsome stench for hours, listened to the men and animals die, and learned what warfare ment. Page 113
Meaning: I think it means that in that community, they didn't know what war was. Since they din't know what war ment I think that the people in that community were not the slightest bit violent. They were just peaceful. I don't like this idea because people from other communities might come into theirs and ask people to join their side in a war and the people in the community might think that wars just a game and they might sign up for it. So if they sign up for it they might die and that community may never exist again.

Chapter 16
December 8,2006
Quote: He percieved the bonds between animals and human. Page 115
Meaning: I think this means that in that community they don't have any pets. I don't like this idea because people deserve to have at lease one pet in their life to make friends with or have a companion. I also like this idea because people don't have to clean up after their pets or cut the pet's hair once in a while. They also don't have to wash the pet every month or so. They also can have a good night's sleep without the pets barking and they also don't have to worry if their pets are lost.

Chapter 17
December 8,2006
Quote: The substitute Laborers who would be given a diffrent holiday.... Page 123
Meaning: I think it means that on a holiday the substitute Laborers had to work while all the other people stay home. I don't like this idea because everyone deserves to take a break on the holidays and to spend time with thier families. I also like this idea because without them no one would take care of the babies or the old.

Chapter 18
December 12,2006
Quote: "....They'd have all those memories again themselves." Page 136
Meaning: I think this means that people in that community have no knowledge of the past whatsoever. I don't like this idea because without the past people won't learn to fix some mistakes so it won't happen again.

Chapter 19
December 12,2006
Quote: Then he went limp. His head fell to the side, his eyes half open. Then he went still. Page 140
Meaning: I think this means that when they have twins in that community, they kill the twin that weighs less. I think this idea is very cruel because they don't have any feelings when they do it, they're just happy to do it and they think that killing is right. I don't like this idea because they could have just delivered the twin to another community instead of killing it. I also don't like this idea because it was just a baby it has a whole life ahead of it and they just killed it.

Chapter 20
December 13, 2006
Quote: " I began to hear something truly remarkable, and it's called music....." Page 148
Meaning: I think it means that people in that community have never heard of music. I like this idea because without music people wouldn't turn up the music so loud that we can't even hear ourselves thinking. I kind of like this idea because people won't be arguing of what kind of music to listen to. I also don't like this idea because without music people won't be able to express the emothions or feelings.

Chapter 21
December 13, 2006
Quote: "......Even I voted for Gabriel's release when we had the meeting this afternoon." Page 154
Meaning: I think this means that when babies don't learn how to sleep a whole night without crying then they have to get released. I don't like this idea because it's the baby's nature to cry at least once a night. The babies can't just not cry at least once a night. It's just their instincts. It's really cruel if they do this to a baby that's just about one year old.

Chapter 22
January 8, 2007
Quote: Now that they had left the culminated feilds behind them, it was almost impossible to find food.
Meaning: I think this means that they raised food from the farming feilds and nowhere beyond that.

Chapter 23
January 8, 2007
Quote: ......They were the red, blue, and yellow lights that twinkled from trees....
Meaning: I think it means that they have reached the place called Elswhere. I also think that they might have just went in a circle instead of going on a strait pathway. I think that they didn't go in a strait pathway because it never said that they went strait. Also, because they said that when the giver left the memories would come to all the people in the town.

Gathering Blue

Chapter 1
Quote: Healthy, strong tykes were valuable; properly trained, they would contribute to family needs and be greatly desired. Page 4
Meanings: I think this means that some people in this village mostly want children that are healthy and strong. It also means that people don't care about children that are unhealthy and weak, the ones that were strong were mostly cared about. I don;t think that this is fair because not everyone is perfect, actually no one is perfect everyone has a flaw in them.

Chapter 2
Quote: They could not go to the woods to hunt, the way the men did. Page 14
Meaning: I think in this village only the men did hunting. It also means that only men were aloud to step foot in the woods. I don't think that this is fair because women can also hunt not only the men. The women can also take care of themselves they don't need a man to take care of themselves.

Chapter 3
Quote: ".....and still nameless...."
Page: 26
Meaning: I think this means that in this village when babies are born they don;t have any name until they are older. I don;t think this is right because everyone deserves a name no matter what. People also have a right to have his/her own identity.

Chapter 4
Quote: Ordinary people did not ornament themselves.
Page: 31
Meaning: I think this means that in this village there are higher, in reputation, then others. I don't like this idea because everyone is at the same level in life. No one is better then anyone, everyone is the same.

Chapter 5
Quote: ...administrating a sharp slap to his head when he was back to her side.
Page: 52
Meaning: I don't like this idea because it's just a child and the child doesn't know any better. I think that instead of hitting the child just tell the child not to do that again or something else. Not just hit the child and not tell him what he did wrong.

Chapter 6
Quote: Four Bells - the third was resonating now -.......
Page: 56
Meaning: I think this means that in this village they can the the hours by hearing the bells ring. I don't think this is really a good idea because maybe someone is too far away from the bells that the person might not be able to hear the bells ring. It's a good idea because people will know when it's dark by just listening to the ringing bells.

Chapter 7
Quote: Mystified still, Kira turned her attention this morning to the long, low, tub.
Page: 67
Meaning: I think this means that people in this village ,that were not rich, had to wash in the stream or somewhere else. I don't like this idea because people deserve to have their own privacy. Young, old, poor, or rich everyone deserves their own privacy, in most situations.

Chapter 8
Quote: "In the Fen, iffen they give you something special, it be a kick in your buttie."
Page: 79
Meaning: I think this means that in this village the people that don't have a lot of money live in a different space then the other people. I also think that, in that part of the village, some parents that live in the Fen and have children abuse their children because of stress or something like that. Also, people that live in the Fen don't have enough money to buy anything small for their children.

Chapter 9
Quote: ''You can write? And read?''
Page: 88
Meaning: I think this means that in this village only boys could read and write. While girls couldn't learn. I don't think this is fair because if boys can read and write, why can't girls? Girls deserve as much respect and rights like boys do. Girls work just as hard as that boys do and they grow up just like boys do, so why can't they read and write? It's just not fair.

Chapter 10
Quote: "You won't be two syllables for a very long time....''
Page: 101
Meaning:
I think this means that in this village people give the young names that are one syllable first then as they grow they give the children bigger syllabled names. I don't think this is a good idea because the children might get confused of what his or her real name is.

Chapter 11
Quote: His mates had laughed at him when they saw him clean.
Page: 107
Meaning: I think this means that the boys that were raised in the Fen didn't take baths or anything to get them clean. I don't think think this is a good idea because in everybody's life they have to be clean so they can be healthier in life. Besides if almost everyone else in that village is clean, why can't they? Also, if someone's not very clean, they die from the bugs that they attract.

Chapter 12
Quote: ''......his mother threw him out because he was noisy and troublesome.....''
Page: 119
Meaning: I think this means that in this village if the children are too noisy and making too much trouble in the house the parents have a right to kick their children out. I don't think this is a good idea because if it suddenly rains the child might die from hypothermia or simply catch a cold.

Chapter 13
Quote: The singing broke off abruptly, and the child cried again.........then the door slammed shut......
Page: 123
Meaning: I think this means that the council in that village had trapped a little child in a room and made her practice singing so she can sing the story of the village in the past. I don't think this is a good idea because it's just a child, he or she should be playing around with her other friends not trapped in a room and practice singing day and night. Also, because if she stays trapped in the room too much, she'll become anti-social.

Chapter 14
Quote: ''.....She be gone to the Field right when the sun be coming up. Draggers tooken her.....''
Page: 133
Meaning: I think this means that the village has this Field where people that come of age are dragged, by the draggers, there to be sacrificed to the beasts. I don't think this is a good idea because if people die they deserve to die from natural causes not from unknown causes. Also, because if that person wants to go to the Field to die then he/she can just go by him/her self, that person doesn't need to be dragged by other people.

Chapter 15
Quote: The old woman's spirit, she realized, would be still in her body.......''She'll need a watcher''......
Page: 141
Meaning: I think this means that when people die they have other people that watch the person that dead until his/her spirit is out of the body. I think this is a good idea because it give the friends and family of the person that is dead some more time to see that person before the person is gone forever.

Chapter 16
Quote: ''.....I'd be breaking me legs and they take me to the Field.''
Page: 150
Meaning: I think this means that when a person breaks any bone in the body, the person would be dragged to the Field. I don't think this is a good idea because it's just a broken bone, it might heal. Also, because even though the person has a broken bone, that person might be able to do other things too.

Chapter 17
Quote: ''.....His mom chucked a rock at him 'cause he tooken some food!.....
Page: 158
Meaning: I think this means that parents that live in the Fen don't let their children eat because of the extremely low food supply. I don't think this is a good idea because without food the children could die. Also, the parents could have just shared a little piece the food, instead of not sharing it at all. I also think that the people in the village could at least spare a little food to the people that live in the Fen.

Chapter 18
Quote: ...the singer of the future..
Page: 171
Meaning: I think this means that the village has a singer that sings the history of the village. I think this is a good idea because the people can know about the past of the village. But I also don't think this is a good idea because the history of the village is so long the people will never be able to listen to all of it.

The Messenger

Chapter 1

Quote: ....the one they call Seer,...
Page: 1
Meaning: I think this means that in this village, they have special people for different things in this village. I think I like the idea, but at the same time I don't like the idea. I like the idea because people don't have to have the same jobs as others so it doesn't get too popular or something like that. I don't like the idea because then if both of the people that are supposed to be doing something are sick then maybe they don't have replacements.

Chapter 3
Date: March 5
Quote: "If we had a Gaming Machine,"
Page: 20
Meaning: I think this means that in this village, people don't have things like computers, phones, or Play Stations to entertain themselves besides helping around and playing around with their friends. I like this idea but at the same time I don't. I don't like this idea because what if a child is sick and can't go out and play? What is he going to do when he's alone and doesn't have anything to play with, is he just gonna stay in bed and stare into space? I like this idea because then people can spend more time with their friends and family instead of playing on the computer, talking on the phone, or play videos games and wasting their time in some occasions.

Chapter 5
Date: March 6
Quote: Trade Mart was a very old custom.
Page: 52
Meaning: I think this means that every year or so, the village has a trading place so people can trade stuff. I think this is a good idea because then people don't have to buy stuff for everything they need, they can just trade. But i also think that this is a bad idea because then what if the trader traded something that was broken? Will that person that he/she traded to get a refund or not?

Chapter 7
Date: March 7
Quote: "....There was a lot of laughter and teasing the time I went" "No laughter tonight....Just silence, as if were very nervous."
Page: 60
Meaning: I think this means that usually when people go to the trade mart, that they're happy and full of positive energy and not full of negative energy. I also think this means that something or someone is causing everyone to change.

Chapter 12
Date: March 8
Quote: ....Something was different......Matty felt hostility from the Forest.
Page: 106
Meaning: I think this means that the Forest is either telling Matty that something is wrong and that he should turn back and go home or that the Forest is mad at him and trying to make it harder for Matty to travel through the Forest so he can perish in the Forest and finally die or something.

Chapter 15
Date: March 9
Quote: It was the way her gift came.
Page: 129
Meaning: I think this means that certain people have gifts that came to them when they were born. I don't think this is a good idea because then if the person that got the gift shows off, then other people could get jealous. I also think that this is a good idea because then if the person uses it for good then, he/she could use it to help other people.

Chapter 18
Date: March 12
Quote: .....the workers still preparing to build a wall surrounding Village.
Page: 154
Meaning: I think this means that the people in this village doesn't want anyone to come here anymore so they can claim this land as their own and not for anyone anymore. I don't like this idea because then what if a traveler needs some place to rest, stop by, or restock on food and finds out that the traveler can't step foot in there? What if people want to go there so they can be free from something or someone or just find a new place to live? I think that building a wall around the village is wrong. if they build a wall around the village that kind of sounds like they're selfish because they won't let anyone walk in their territory.

Chinese Cinderella

Chapter 2
Date: March 13
Quote: They blamed me for causing Mama's death and never forgave me.
Page: 4
Meaning: I think this means that in China, when people die, they blame people that seem responsible for his/her death. I don't like this idea because just because that person seems like a person to cause a death, doesn't mean that they usually are. Besides, what if the accused person was a small child, how can a small child be the cause of a death? Everyone dies at a point in life so why blame a small child for something he/she didn't mean to do?

Chapter 8
Date: March 14
Quote: I was the only one always excluded.
Page: 41
Meaning: I think this means that when she was young, her siblings and parents always left her out of things that they were doing. I don't like this idea because what if someone left you out? Would you like it and how would you feel?

Chapter 10
Date: March 15
Quote: "We have specific instructions from your mother that chicken eggs are intended only for those on the first floor."
Page: 62
Meaning: I think this means that the mother thinks that the children that live on the first floor are more special then the others. So that means that they get special orders just for them. I don't think this is a good idea because the other children will get jealous of the other children. Also, because then the children that gets special food will eventually, maybe become concided.

Chapter 15
Date: March 16
Quote: "....Haven't they heard the Communists are winning the war? Soon PLA soldiers will be marching in from Manchuria. ......and put everyone in prison."
Page: 129
Meaning: I think this means that her parents don't care about her, so they put her in a bording school thats dargerously near the war. I don't think that this is a good idea because curse or no curse, smart or stupid, no matter what she is your child and your supposed to take care of her no matter what.

Chapter 16
Date: March 19
Quote: But then Victor did something that my brothers would have never done. He took of his life jacket, slipped it on his sister and showed her how to adjust the straps
Page: 141
Meaning: I think this means that her (Adeline) brothers don't care about her either. I don't think that this is fair because it's their sister, why shouldn't they not care for her? She didn't do anything to them or to anyone around them. I think that what Victor did was sweet because that shows that he cares about his sister's safety very much.

Chapter 18
Date: March 20
Quote: I possessed only one old-fashion, plain brown Sunday dress that too small, too short, and too tight.
Page: 166
Meaning: I think this means that Adeline's parents don't buy her any new clothes to wear. I don't hink this is fair because they buy her siblings new clothes and not her. Also, because then the whole family will make fun of her just because she doesn't have clothes like them.

Chapter 22
Date: March 21
Quote: "....So I was quite pleased to tell him you are my daughter...."
Page: 192
Meaning: I think this means that when She does something that her father pround is the only time when he acknowlegdes her. I don't think that this is fair because the others don't have to impress their dad for him to acknowlege them, but she does have to. So I think that just because she does something very good, that doesn't mean that she can get attention, i think that her dad has to give her attention 24/7.

Vampire Plauges: Mexico Book Three

Chapter 1
Date: March 22
Quote: Standing in front of him......very much alive, was a man who Ben had been certain was dead.
Page: 13
Meaning: Think this means that the person that is standig in front of him is someone who is supposed to be dead. Either that or I think that the person's death was an illusion.

Chapter 3
Date: March 23
Quote: .....set off the flowers, which were a bright red - vivid as fresh blood, and unmistakeable.
Page:32
Meaning: I think this is why the flower is called the blood rose. The bright red color looks like fresh blood judt poured out of something or someone. I also think that it is easy to identify the flower because of the color.

Chapter 3
Date: March 26
Quote: "....The priestly language was sacred; that's why it was different."
Page:47
Meaning: I think this means that in ancient Mayan times, the priets wrote in different languages. I think this is a good idea because then if the priests needed to write to each about something important, then others won't be able to understand it. But, i also think that this is a bad idea because then what if one of the priets died or something? How would the word get out?

Chapter 9
Date: March 27
Quote: ......betryed and murdered. Now she must learn all she could about Lorena's plan.
Page: 83
Meaning: I think this means that Loreana gained trust, but then someone else found out that Loreana was betraying them. I don't like this idea because trust is a hard thing to do. You can't just gain someone's trust and then just throw it all away. It's just not right to.

Chapter 10
Date: March 28
Quote: "....the owner of the hut died today......It's no one's home now."
Page: 91
Meaning: I think this means that vampires can't go in someone's house without permission. If the owner of the house died, then vampires could go in and out of the house as he/she pleases.

Chapter 15
Date: March 29
Quote: Whatever had once stood there, it was now gone, and in it's place was a large statue of a bat.
Page: 128
Meaning: I think this means that the people that once lived in that village are now vampires. I also think that since now that they are vampires, they worship their god, Camazotz.

Vampire Plagues: Mexico Book Three

Chapter 15
Date: April 2, 2007
Quote: The vampires fell onto a procession that passed by the brazier.
Page: 136
Meaning: I think this means that whenever their god comes back, they have a celebration or a sacrifice. In another point of view, i think this is a good idea because then we can all celebrate the god coming back. But in the other point of view, i think this is a bad sign because then, the god could cause chaos.

Chapter 16

Quote: There were another ten feet of carving......the carvings..went for about forty feet
Page: 143
Meaning: I think that this a good idea because then, the history of the Mayans would preserved, throughout time. People could also know what the Mayans did during their lives and who were the heroes and felons in those times. Also, because then people that have Mayan roots could see what their ancestors did when they were alive and get to know him/her better without the ancestor being actually there.

Quote: Grace and Connor knew they were being looked at. It was nothing new. All their lives, they'd been the subject of gossip. They had never escaped the drama of their arrival in Crescent Moon Bay.
Page:18
Meaning: I don't think that this is very nice because everyone's the same. No one's is different in any way ever. Also, because they're just children, why should they be the center subject of gossip? So if they have been to Crescent Moon Bay for most of their lives, shouldn't they be fitting in right now? Instead of everyone just acting like they're still new in town and have never heard of them before or trust them in anyway.

Page: 24
Meaning: I think that this is kind of greedy and selfish because their father just died, and they have no mom, and he just comes to their home and ask them to be their son and daughter. I think that's just a little too messed up.

Chapter 5
Date: April 9, 2007
Quote: ..he had to find Grace.
Page: 41

Page: 103

Chapter 15
Date: April 13, 2007
Quote: "...We're all family here..."
Page: 137
Meaning: I think that that's sweet because they have only known him for less then a week, and they already consider him as family. It's also very sweet because it coming from a pirate. Usually pirates don't say that. So coming from him, it's really a good sign.

Chapter 17
Date: April 16, 2007
Quote: "From me? Yes, Grace, you're safe. I swore it before, and I'll swear it again, I'll never do you harm"
Page: 152

Chapter 20
Date: April 17, 2007
Quote: ...spoke in riddles.
Page: 176
Meaning: I think that this is a good idea because then people that sneak on the ship to steak something wouldn't know where to find the treasures because the captain would speak in riddles of where the treasure is.

Date: April 18, 2007
Quote: Her whole body seemed to bristle with energy

Chapter 23
Date: April 19, 2007
Quote: ...Captain Wrathe joked around with the crew.
Page: 205
Meaning: I think that this makes a great captain because if the captain was strict, then the crew wouldn't do as good as a crew with a captain that jokes around. Also, because then the crew could respect the captain.

Chapter 26
Date: April 20, 2007
Quote: ....with the same cold eyes..
Page: 242
Meaning: I think that this is a little mean because she didn't do anything wrong and he's acting like she killed someone in his family. It's just not right. Also, if he's doing it to impress someone, then, it's also not right, because why act mean to someonewho didn't do anything to just impress someone.

Chapter 28
Date: April 23, 2007

The First Emperor’s Death

Do you know who the first emperor of China is? His name was Qin Shihuangdi.

His name means “first emperor”. But his real name was Zheng. This essay is about the

emperor’s death, his tomb, and the terra-cotta army.

Even though the emperor had many achievements, he was unable to find happiness. But that was the least of his problems. Above all, he was afraid to die. So then, he wanted to become immortal. Magicians that his asked to his court said that he had to find a magical potion. He searched far and near to find the potion. He even sent people to the island east of China. Sadly, he never found the potion. He died at the tender age of 49. He ruled china for 36 years. He started ruling the empire at age 13. His death caused rebellion in the countryside. It also caused people to try to overthrow his dynasty. What followed was a Civil War against leaders.
Since the emperor was royalty, he was buried in a tomb. His Tomb was on of the many wonders of China. It was also hand-made it took about 11 years to finish. 70,000 people participated in the building of the tomb. But sadly, 2,000 years later the tomb’s roof collapsed. Peasants searching for an underground well discovered the tomb. In the tomb, there were fire marks proving the presence of robbers. There’re of course robbers because the tomb had many treasures inside of it. Many of the treasures included tools, precious jewels, and rare objects. To help the emperor in the after-life, they buried his concubines and maids alive in the tomb. The workers who built the tomb were also buried alive. They were buried alive so the secrets of the tomb were protected.
One major part of the emperor’s tomb was the terra-cotta army. Archeologists found so many pits of statues that they separated them into four pits. It is another wonder of China. The whole army was made of clay. About 6,000 life-sized clay soldiers were buried with the emperor. There were clay soldiers of archers, foot soldiers, chariot drivers, and horses. Since it was an army, each soldier was armed with a bronze weapon. No two men are ever alike, so each soldier had different face expressions and features. The army was located one mile east of the tomb where the emperor was buried. Which is also 1.5 kilometers east of the tomb.
In conclusion, the death of the emperor was both a good and bad time. His death caused war among leaders. But ended the harsh laws he created. His tomb was rather like a palace. But then, the roof sadly collapsed 2,000 years later. That then caused many clay soldiers to break. Lastly, his spirit was protected well by the many clay soldiers. Well, the ones the remained that is. It’s starting to sound like being a dead empress or emperor is like still being alive without being in a solid body. Well, in the china way.
